Care in Lowedges Batemoor and Jordanthorpe
Care in Lowedges Batemoor and Jordanthorpe, known as Care in LBJ, was set up in 2006 to help the older residents in the area. The aim was to enhance their quality of life through volunteers who offer the kind of support a " good neighbour" might give.
The scheme was funded by Objective One and the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund which has now come to an end. We are currently reviewing the scheme so that the work can be continued by a local organisation.
It will still be our aim for volunteers to offer a range of assistance including:
- Regular or occasional friendly visiting (eg a regular cup of tea and a chat)
- Shopping when someone comes home from hospital or in an emergency
- Escorting to appointments
- Occasional sitting to give a carer a break or time to attend an appointment
- Re arranging furniture to enable greater mobility
- Holidays checks-regular telephone calls/visits while a relative is away
All these services are free of charge
Volunteering
The heart and most important part of the scheme are the volunteers. We are delighted that people want to give their time and energy to do this work.
Like the people we help, our volunteers come from all sectors of the community.
Each volunteer undergoes a thorough recruitment procedure including a CRB check to enhanced level followed by an induction with a Coordinator.
All volunteers have ongoing support and can access further training.
Could you be a good neighbour and give some of your time on a regular or occasional basis?
